Occupied Palestine: Killing of journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh is a horrific war crime.

By assassinating prominent journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh, Al-Jazeera correspondent, the Israeli occupying forces have committed a horrific crime that violates all international laws and conventions.

While covering the storming of the Jenin refugee camp, an Israeli army sniper targeted her with a fatal shot. Witnesses said the shots were deliberate and the bullet hit her below the ear in an area not covered by the helmet she was wearing.

This assassination is a crime against the press in general and a new war crime that adds to the long record of the Israeli occupation.

In condemning this crime, we call for a serious investigation into the circumstances of the murder of journalist Sherine and for the perpetrators to be held accountable.

We consider the silence of the international community on the crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people as an endorsement and support for them.

We also call on the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to act urgently to open the investigation, which was supported by Pre-Trial Chamber I within the same court.
