AFD International is very alarmed at the situation in Myanmar

As evidence of potential crime against humanity are coming fast and thin from Myanmar, AFD International is calling upon the international community to live up to its responsibility to stop further mass killing of the innocent and defenceless Rohingya minority in the state of Rakhine . It is almost evident that the state is responsible for the grave violations of fundamental human rights against vulnerable ethnic people of Myanmar.
Over 70,000 people are believed to have fled the country and hundreds have lost their lives in brutal, barbaric and systematic fashion. At least 30000 are trapped in Myanmar mountains without food. The situation is likely to get worse as more people are fleeing for their lives. The humanitarian aid in the bordering neighbour country of Bangladesh is not coping with the number of Refugees who have been traumatised and brutalised before they reach safety.
AFD International is calling on Bangladeshi authorities to keep its borders open and ensure the safety of the refugees coming through. Also, we are requesting from the UN humanitarian agencies namely United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Programme (WFP) to play its role the deliver relief assistance. We also urge different humanitarian organisations to increase its presence in the region in order to provide assistance and sustenance to the villagers, whom their villages and livelihoods have been destroyed. Finally, AFD International will be looking at the possibility on holding the responsible for any mass violations of human rights to account through the international channels and instruments.
